Mountain Highlights A 10 day feast of hiking opportunities all around the island. An average of 3 hours of hiking most days, in many different parts of Iceland, and a whale watching cruise in the north. The bus transports your luggage, so you walk unencumbered while enjoying the spectacular landscape. Stay in hotels with private baths in the back country and the coasts. Breakfast and dinner, plus optional trips, riding and rafting. Starts Mondays in Iceland.

This has a great variety of things Icelandic, with about three hours walking a day in some of the most beautiful parts of Iceland. Highlights include Thingvellir National Park, the wonders of Landmannalaugar, Tjörnes Peninsula, a whale watching cruise, and Lake Mývatn, with its bird life and geothermal activity. Lots of waterfalls, including Dettifoss, the most powerful in Europe. You'll have a great guide, but also some flexibility, with some optional activities - river rafting, and riding, to let you experience lots of fun.

Lots to see but little to carry, as the tour bus takes your luggage along. Accommodations are in hotels, country guest houses and cabins. This tour works well for a moderate hiking tour that gets you off the beaten path. Great landscapes, great walks, great fun! This is a long tour, at least it is for Americans. But for any who can make the time for this trip it is an immersion into an exotic land that can't be beat!

Tuesday
Landmannalaugar

Today's destination is the broad valley of Þórsmörk, with its wild and romantic rolling hills, narrow canyons, wooded valleys and colorful flowers. You'll hike in between three majestic glaciers which feed the glacial torrents which wind through the moraines on the valley floor. The tour returns to Reykjavik in the afternoon and you'll have an evening, with dinner on your own to explore Iceland's capital. There's also some nice walking opportunities in the city.

Thursday
Farewell...
After breakfast you may have time to explore a bit of Reykjavik or take a dip in a warm swimming pool. The Flybus will pick up American travelers at your guesthouse in the early afternoon and get you to the International airport at Keflavik for late afternoon flights.  Flights to Europe leave early in the day, so this requires an earlier transfer via the Flybus.
