Iceland is all about the outdoors! You’ll be driven to areas of spectacular scenery in West and South Iceland and even the interior highlands. This new tour allows you to hike through Europe’s last true wilderness.A landscape of stark, desolate and raw beauty, glacial rivers and lava fields punctuated by ice caps, volcanoes and jagged mountains. Suitable for everyone who enjoys the outdoors, nature photography, hiking in the wild and experiencing spectacular scenery

Monday Evening
Day 0 Monday
Travelers from North America leave for Iceland on an overnight flight with an early morning arrival at Keflavik Airport in Iceland.

Day 1 Tuesday
Welcome to Iceland!  (50 km/31 mls) 
The Flybus shuttle brings you from Keflavík International airport to Reykjavík where you spend your first night in Iceland. We provide you with ideas how to explore Iceland’s capital on your own.

Day 2 Wednesday
Bird Watching Cruise and Volcano Hike (350 km/217 mls)

West Iceland for a 2-hour bird watching cruise between the uncountable islands of Breiðarfjörður bay. In the afternoon we follow the beautiful coastline of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula and climb the Grábrók volcano crater. Next stop is at Europe’s most powerful hot spring. We spend 2 nights in Húsafell, West Iceland.

Day 3 Thursday
Waterfalls and Optional Cave Tour (20 km/12 mls)

Visit the magnificent Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls. Optional activities in the afternoon: a hike with your guide or an optional, once-in-a-lifetime tour to visit the man-made ice tunnel and caves located on one of Europe’s largest glaciers, Langjökull.

Day 4 Friday
Highland Roads, National Park and Geysers (220 km/136 mls)

Follow the gravel mountain road Kaldidalur to Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and an area of exceptional geological and historical interest. Further east is the famous Geysir, the most energetic spouting hot spring in Iceland. Spend 2 nights at the Kerlingarfjöll Mountain Lodge, somewhere in the middle of nowhere.

Day 5, Sarurday
Exploring the Interior Highland of Iceland (100 km/62 mls)

The Kerlingarfjöll mountain massif rich in contrasts with its peaks and valleys, glaciers and snowfields and all that lively geothermal activity, tempting both hikers and photographers alike. There’s a 2 hour hike to see fuming steam vents, boiling mud pots and hot streams close to snow and ice. In the afternoon travel to Hveravellir or “The Hot Spring Fields”, like an oasis in this vast and barren highlands of Central Iceland. It is awesome sitting in a natural hot pool in the wilderness, between two of Iceland´s glaciers, surrounded by multi-coloured boiling mud pools, huffing and puffing fumaroles and spectacular azure hot springs.

Day 6, Sunday
Land of Water and Lava (250 km/155 mls)

Todays stop is at the spectacular Gullfoss waterfall. Then relax in the “Secret Lagoon”, a natural geothermal spring. Continue alongside Mt Hekla to visit the Hjálparfoss waterfall in Þjórsárdalur valley. Nearby e explore the Viking farm at Stöng with a leisurely hike to Gjáin, a green oasis in an otherwise rocky, barren moonlike landscape. Spend 2 nights in Hella, South Iceland.

Day 7, Monday
Landmannalaugar (220 km/136 mls)

Today you explore a different part of the interior highlands of Iceland as you hike in the spectacular Landmannalaugar region with rough lava fields, hot springs and fascinating rhyolite mountains with an incredible spectrum of colors. There is also a natural geothermal stream where you can enjoy a hot soak.

Day 8, Tuesday
South Iceland (280 km/173 mls)

Heading to Vatnajökull National Park there are stops to see two famous waterfalls, Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss. You’ll see Iceland’s past comes alive at the Skógar folk museum with its turf houses. At the seaside, you can stroll on the black lava beach to see the amazing bird cliffs in Vík. Spend 2 nights at Hotel Glacier Lagoon.

Day 9, Wednesday
Vatnajokull National Park and The Galcial Lagoon (120 km/74 mls)

Skaftafell area has a lot to offer for nature lovers. In the morning you may join a hike to Svartifoss waterfall with your tour guide or participate in an optional glacier walk on Svínafellsjökull glacier. In the afternoon visit Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and enjoy a boat ride amongst the floating icebergs.

Day 10, Thursday
Canyon and Horses (375 km/232 mls)

Heading back to Reykjavík there’s a hike along Fjaðrárgljúfur, a spectacular massive canyon - serpentine with sheer walls. Next stop is Reynisfjara, a black pebble beach that features amazing cliffs of regular basalt columns resembling a rocky step pyramid. There’s a chance to meet the Icelandic horse at before ending up in Reykjavik for your last night

Day 11, Friday

Depart for Home  (50 km/31 mls) 

The Flybus airport shuttle picks you up at your hotel and takes you to Keflavik airport.

EASY HIKING: This tours is based on short daily hiking of 1-2  hours, 1-5 km and with an elevation from 100-600 meters. The walks will be easy pace and allow enough time to take photos. The hiking is suitable to all those with good health and those who are able to walk/hike 2-3 hours on narrow nature trails – you’ll only need a small day pack. Some trails may take you over boulder fields or loose rock slopes, over small streams and on some steep slopes. Hiking in Iceland offers an amazing variety of terrain along the way. As with any of the Iceland Adventure tours, we’ll be happy to arrange for you to arrive in Iceland a few days before the tour starts, or to stay a few days after the tour ends - just ask!


Finer Print: Price includes round trip airfare, including international airfare from the US east coast*, airport transfers and any pre and post tour accommodations needed. The tour itself includes 6 nights in rooms with private bath** breakfast everyday. and 6 dinners, whale watching, boat tour on Jokulsarlon. settlement center in Borgarnes, 2 National parks,horse show, the Nature Baths in Lake Myvatn, Skogar folk museum, boat tour on Jokulsarlon. There is 1-2 hours of easy walking on most days.

*Not included are Travel Insurance (which we can help with ), lunch and dinner on pre-and post-tour days in Reykjavik, lunch while on the tour (there will be a stop made everyday to purchase this) and any additional expenses or travel you may choose. NOTE: Your pre and post nights in Reyjkavik are in comfortable 3 star hotels -- we can also book a guesthouse which will reduce the price a bit, or upgrade you to a 4 star hotel as well. Just ask!!

Some of the hotels on this tour are “summer hotels” used much of the year as boarding schools. They are simple and clean, all with private baths, but don’t always have usual “hotel” amenities, such as telephones or in - room internet connections. There are available in central sitting room, however.
